Simple Urine Test Detects Prostate Cancer

Recently, a home urine test called MyProstateScore 2.0 (MPS2) has been developed to accurately detect aggressive prostate cancer. This test analyzes 18 genes associated with aggressive forms of the disease and has demonstrated a 94% detection rate, surpassing the sensitivity of PSA blood tests.

One significant advantage of MPS2 is that it allows patients to collect urine samples in the comfort of their homes, without the need for a prior digital rectal exam. This not only reduces the discomfort associated with traditional methods but also facilitates early detection.

Additionally, the use of MPS2 could prevent up to 53% of unnecessary biopsies, representing a considerable improvement in prostate cancer management. Currently, MPS2 is available through Lynx Dx, a spin-off company from the University of Michigan with an exclusive license for its commercialization.
